Did bullying lead Yazoo county student to threaten violence?

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – What may have pushed the Yazoo county girl to the point of violent threats?

She told the bus driver that she brought the gun because other students were irritating her.

A medical professional offers advice on dealing with bullies.

Jackson child psychologist Dr. David Elkin says resorting to violence is no way deal with a bully, but he also says ignoring them will not make them go away.

“When the child is scared for his or her own safety, and that’s a subjective thing. That’s when the parent or counselor, or teacher, or coach or the bus driver, whomever is around needs to take it seriously,” said Dr. Elkin.”

Elkin, who practices at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, deals with a minimum of two cases of bullying a month and says a child needs to know an adult will take action when they report it.

Here are some signs they may be bullied.
