Daley plan to combat violence includes more cops, money

Mayor Daley today threw more money and police bodies at a daunting problem no closer to being solved than at any time during his 20-year tenure: the bloodbath on Chicago streets that’s destroying another generation of young people.

The videotape replayed around the world of 16-year-old Fenger High School student Derrion Albert being beaten to death during a brawl by students from rival neighborhoods has captured the attention of political leaders like so many other youth murders before it.

Roseland mob death: Mothers of 2 Fenger suspects react

Two South Side mothers on Monday confronted the brutal violence their sons are accused of as formal charges against the teens were filed and images of them allegedly beating and stomping to death another teenager made national news.

One tearfully said she could not bear to look at the video. The other regretfully acknowledged it was her son on the video depicting the fatal beating of Fenger High School student Derrion Albert, 16.

Graphic video: Beating death of Derrion Albert captured

UPDATE: Four teenagers have been charged with first-degree murder in Derrion Albert’s beating death.

Silvanus Shannon, 19, Eugene Riley, 18, and Eric Carson, 16, all of Chicago, were charged as adults ordered held without bond. Eugene Bailey, 18, was also charged with first-degree murder and will appear in court Tuesday.

Prosecutors declared Albert an “innocent bystander” in the fight that led to his death. Full story and video.

Chicago police seek 3 more in Roseland teen’s death

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — Chicago police asked the public for help Tuesday in finding three more people believed connected to last week’s videotaped fatal beating of 16-year-old Derrion Albert.

Derrion Albert, 16, was beaten to death last week. His death was captured on video.

“We need the public’s help, your help,” Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis told reporters.

$6,000 reward for clues in Roseland’s Derrion Albert death

Chicago: Teen beaten to death in Roseland mob fight

(CHICAGO) (WLS) — Authorities say 16-year-old Derrion Albert was walking from school in broad daylight when he was beaten to death.

It happened on Thursday in Chicago’s Roseland community on the far South Side in the 300-block of West 111th Street.

According to authorities, Derrion Albert was kicked, punched and beaten to death by several teens near the Agape Community Center.
