MTSU fraternity under investigation for hazing

Daily News Journal
Murfreesboro, TENN. — An MTSU spokesman confirmed Tuesday that the Eta Zeta chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at MTSU is currently under investigation by the Dean of Student Life Office and Office of Student Affairs for reported hazings.

Tom Tozer, spokesperson for MTSU, said allegations have been made that certain members have been “urinated on, blindfolded and hit with chairs.”

The hazing was not a part of an initiation, he added, as pledge week has not yet occurred.

MTSU Police Department’s crime logs indicate a subject advised that he was assaulted by 10 persons at the Pi Kappa Alpha House on Greek Row around 2:30 a.m. Oct. 16. No other details of the assault were available and MTSU Police Chief Buddy Peaster could not be reached for comment.

Punishment against the organization as a whole is “highly unlikely,” Tozer said, adding that the possibility of individual punishments is more likely in the case.

The national chapter head of Pi Kappa Alpha has been contacted by Gene Fitch, the MTSU associate vice president for student affairs and dean of student life. The national chapter usually conducts a concurrent investigation into the claims. Full story.
