Wisc.: Widow of slain principal helps with anti-bullying campaign

The widow of a high school principal shot and killed by a student has helped launch a new anti-bullying campaign in Wisconsin.

John Klang was the principal at Weston Schools three years ago when he was killed during a struggle with 15-year-old Eric Hainstock.

Sue Klang believes that if the new program had been in place at the time, her husband may still be alive.

Sue says, “One lesson from that day is making schools safer, and it’s a job for all of us, for every member of community. Along with many actions to directly prevent school violence, we must act to stop bullying in school with good instruction and relationship building.”

Through the campaign, all Wisconsin elementary and middle schools will receive the anti-bullying curriculum for free.

State education officials are hoping school districts will use the material to deal with issues such as bullying accomplished over the internet and by using text messaging. See video.
