The city gets a D- for its efforts to protect students from bullying and bias attacks, new surveys say.
It has not implemented the regulations it passed last year, two reports released Tuesday by a coalition of legal and advocacy groups charged.
As a result, there is continued harassment of students based on religion, language ability and sexual orientation.
“We are deeply concerned that the new regulation remains an unfulfilled promise,” said Sonny Singh, executive director of the Sikh Coalition.
One report, which surveyed 1,100 students and teachers, found a quarter of students were victims of bias-based harassment and many were unaware of reporting procedures. Full story.
